I’m Sophie and I’m a freelance writer, educator, traveller, and generally vibing polyglot! You can find selected poetry here and prose here. I’m also currently working on my first non-fiction book!
I’ve recently completed a poetry residency with Metal New Artist Network, as well as non-fiction residencies with Bothy Project, Studio 459, and Amplify Bookstore. I was selected for The Writing Room (2022), a poetry development programme run by Apples and Snakes, and completed a poetry programme facilitated by Simon Mole on writing with and for children.
I am also a trained workshop facilitator and have designed and delivered creative translation and poetry workshops, working with organisations such as the Stephen Spender Trust, The Queen’s Translation Exchange, Cheltenham Literature Festival, The Goethe-Institut, Hong Kong Baptist University, Bi+ Lines, and the National Centre for Writing.
I have also been working as a modern and classical languages tutor since 2017!
In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my dogs, Doughnut and Tiny; solo-travelling with my film camera and tripod in tow; and watching Korean variety shows.
Do reach out if you’d like to work together! You can email me at sophieyanyeelau@gmail.com.
